Mio caro, stimatissimo dottor Levi,

è passato tanto, tanto tempo dall’ultima volta che ci siamo sentiti. E devo ammettere che è stata anche colpa mia. Ho avuto moltissimo da fare. Nel frattempo ci siamo trasferiti; può vedere il mio nuovo indirizzo qui in alto, nell’intestazione. Il trasloco e i lavori per arredare la casa e via dicendo mi hanno costretto a trascurare la corrispondenza.

Come va? Sta lavorando a un nuovo libro? Mi farebbe davvero piacere poter leggere presto qualche Suo nuovo scritto.

Per ora non mi sarà possibile venire a Torino. Ma sarebbe bello se venisse a trovarmi Lei in uno dei Suoi viaggi in Germania.

Un’altra cosa: in autunno, forse all’inizio di settembre – la data precisa non è stata ancora fissata – si terrà in Austria, vicino al confine ceco, tavola rotonda tra giovani autori. L’evento si svolge due volte all’anno, una in primavera e una in autunno.[1] 

Non le farebbe piacere partecipare? Magari potrebbe combinare il viaggio con una vacanza insieme alla Sua famiglia, dato che saremo ospiti di un antico castello circondato da una splendida campagna. Chissà se conosce anche altri autori italiani che potrebbero essere interessati? Mi faccia sapere cosa pensa di questa proposta. In ogni caso, sarei felice di avere di nuovo Sue notizie ogni tanto.

My dear, most esteemed Mr. Levi,

We have not been in touch for a long, long time. In the end that was also my fault. But I had a lot going on. In the meantime we have moved; you will see my new address above. So the move and all the work involved in getting settled in and so on has meant that I have fallen far behind with correspondence.

How are you? Are you working on a new book? I would be glad to read anything new of yours soon.

For the time being, I will not be able to come to Turin. But it would be wonderful if you were able to visit us here during one of your trips to Germany at some point.

And one more thing: this autumn, perhaps early September—the precise date has not been set yet—some young authors will meet up for a reading in Austria, near the Czech border. The event takes place twice a year, once in the spring and once in the autumn.[1]

Might you like to participate sometime? Maybe, since it takes place in an old castle surrounded by a beautiful landscape, you could do it in conjunction with a family vacation. And perhaps you know of other Italian authors who might like to participate. Do write to let me know your thoughts about the possibility. In any case, I would be glad to hear from you every now and then.

Mein lieber, sehr verehrter Herr Doktor Levi,

lange, lange haben wir nichts voneinander gehört. Nicht zuletzt war auch ich daran Schuld. Aber ich hatte sehr viel zu tun. Inzwischen sind wir umgezogen, meine neue Adresse sehen Sie oben am Briefkopf. Auch durch diesen Umzug und die damit verbundenen Arbeiten der Einrichtung und so weiter, bin ich mit meiner Korrespondenz weit zurückgeworfen worden.

Wie geht es Ihnen? Arbeiten Sie an einem neuen Buch? Ich würde mich freuen, bald wieder etwas von Ihnen lesen zu können.

Nach Turin werde ich vorläufig nicht kommen können. Aber es wäre doch schön, wenn Sie auf einer Ihrer Reisen nach Deutschland mal nach hier kämen.

Etwas anderes: Im Herbst, vielleicht Anfang September – ein genauer Termin steht noch nicht fest – werden in Österreich, nahe der tschechischen Grenze – junge Autoren sich zu einer Lesung treffen. Dieses Treffen findet zweimal im Jahr statt, einmal im Frühjahr und einmal im Herbst.[1]

Hätten Sie nicht Lust, daran einmal teilzunehmen? Möglicherweise, da in landschaftlicher schöner Umgebung, auf einem alten Schloss, könnten Sie eine Reise dorthin mit einem Urlaub für sich und Ihre Familie damit verbinden. Vielleicht wissen Sie auch andere italienische Autoren, die daran teilnehmen möchten. Schreiben Sie mir doch mal, was Sie zu diesem Vorschlag meinen. Auf jeden Fall würd ich mich freuen, gelegentlich einmal wieder von Ihnen zu hören.
