Cher Hermann,
non, malheureusement je ne serai pas en condition de venir au rassemblement de Riva,[1] ce que je regrette beaucoup (combien d’années se sont écoulées depuis notre dernière rencontre?). Il s’agit des conditions de santé de ma mère, qui nous donnent des soucis: il est même pour cette raison que j’ai tardé 20 jours à repondre à ton invitation. Je viens d’écrire dans le même sens à Piasenti.
Bien merci des coupures que tu m’as envoyées: les nouvelles ne sont pas agréables, et par ailleurs, ici en Italie, nous sommes en train de vivre des semaines de détresse et d’incertitude extrèmes.[2] Je me félicite avec toi pour le succès de ton livre en France; bon travail pour le suivant!

no, purtroppo non mi sarà possibile venire al congresso di Riva,[1] mi spiace molto (quanti anni sono passati dal nostro ultimo incontro?). Sono le condizioni di salute di mia madre a tenerci in pensiero: motivo per cui ho tardato 20 giorni a rispondere al tuo invito. Ho appena scritto un messaggio analogo a Piasenti.
Grazie dei ritagli che mi hai mandato: le notizie non sono gradevoli, e del resto qui in Italia stiamo vivendo settimane di sgomento e incertezza estremi.[2] I miei complimenti per il successo del tuo libro in Francia; buon lavoro per il prossimo!

No, unfortunately I will not be able to come to the meeting in Riva,[1] which I regret very much (how many years has it been since we last saw each other?). The issue is the health conditions of my mother, which are causing us worry: it is also for this reason that it took me 20 days to reply to your invitation. I have just written the same thing to Piasenti.
Thank you very much for the clippings you sent me: the news is not pleasant, and moreover, here in Italy, we are experiencing weeks of extreme distress and uncertainty.[2] I am happy for you about the success of your bookin France; best wishes for your work on the next one!

Come è noto, nel 1976 si succedettero in Italia tre diversi governi, due dei quali guidati da Aldo Moro: dopo che il Partito Socialista aveva dichiarato il ritiro dell’appoggio esterno, nei primi giorni dell’anno Moro aveva rassegnato il mandato del suo quarto governo, ma già il 12 febbraio del 1976 il Presidente della Repubblica Giovanni Leone gli aveva affidato un nuovo incarico, in un clima di forte incertezza politica. Il Governo Moro V resterà in essere poche settimane, e il 30 aprile il Presidente del Consiglio rassegnerà le dimissioni: a seguito delle elezioni anticipate del 20-21 giugno nascerà quindi il governo Andreotti III.
