Caro amico, («amigo» è spagnolo!)

ho appena ricevuto, assai in ritardo, la tua lettera dell’11/8. Ti scrivo brevemente per dirti che quando sono partito per le vacanze (29/7) Einaudi non aveva ancora ricevuto le bozze. Gli ho telefonato ieri, ma saranno in ferie fino al 28/8. Appena possibile, farò vedere al signor Ferrero la copia della lettera di Fayard. Ti scriverò presto,

I have just received, with much delay, your letter of 8/11. I am writing you just a note to tell you that when I left for vacation (7/29), Einaudi had not yet received the proofs. I called him yesterday, but they are on vacation until 8/28. As soon as possible, I will show Mr. Ferrero the copy of the letter from Fayard. I will write to you soon.

je viens de recevoir, avec bien du retard, ta lettre de 11/8. Je t’écris un mot seulement, pour te dire qu’au moment de mon départ pour les vacances (29/7) Einaudi n’avait pas encore reçu les épreuves. Je lui ai téléphoné hiers, mais ils sont en vacances jusqu’au 28/8. Sitôt possible, je ferai voir à M. Ferrero la copie de la lettre de Fayard. Je t’écrirai bientôt.
